As a special festive feast I have a fantastic guest post for you from the lovely Nell Crook, Wedding Business Assistant at Not on the High Street – with beautiful inspiration from our feathered friends…..
Bird decorations are increasingly becoming more and more popular. Bird motifs can be found in our wardrobes, adding style to our homes and they will make the perfect finishing touch for any 2012 wedding.
Birds are often associated with love and many birds are superstitiously linked to virtuous qualities. There is a current trend for peacock feathers in fashion and these traditionally represent immortality and pride, while swallows, heavily featured in contemporary vintage-inspired clothing and stationery design, represent health, wealth, fertility and hope.
Bird cages are an on-trend style-statement and there are many styles, colours and sizes of bird cages for weddings available, allowing you to choose the perfect piece to style your day. They can be used as seating plans and you could get creative and place a simple floral arrangement inside a birdcage as a centrepiece, for a unique and stunning look.
The inspiration doesn’t have to stop at bird decorations as there are some beautiful jewellery pieces around to choose from that could make a great ‘something new’. Whether it’s a love bird pendant or a pair of swallow studs, you can find something that will work well with both classic and contemporary tastes. Fascinators make a cool alternative to the traditional veil and there are some beautiful designs that use a number of fabrics including layered tulle, netting and feathers, to create a striking look.
A really different way to interpret the trend is by blending feathers into wedding bouquets. Large, bold feathers make a statement with pure white roses, or for a more understated look, wispy light feathers would work beautifully with a more classic collection of blooms (think soft and delicate wild flowers).
Other great ideas for your wedding include love-bird wedding invitations and save the date cards. To include some pretty bird wedding touches into your wedding styling, you could decorate the venue with rustic hanging bird decorations or, for an eco-friendly touch and an original statement, paper birds are a great thing to incorporate into your table decorations and favours.
I am totally in love with that headdress!! Loving the bird inspiration - thank you so much for sharing Harriet, and I hope you will all head on over to Not on the High Street this Christmas for lots more wedding inspiration.
