As promised, I have been working on some DIY projects for the blog recently, but I wanted to break myself in gently with a relatively easy project. So on one of my numerous recent trips to Hobby Craft I discovered the wonderful world of Decopatch.
Decpatch is paper crafting, where you cover objects in beautiful paper to make them pretty – perfect for a wedding, just think of all the hanging hearts you can create, and letters spelling out L – O – V – E, or you and your partners names….
And the best part is, all you will need is:
- Paperpatch – Decopatch glue (make sure you get the paperpatch one and not the gloss, I initially made this error and it is not so good on the sticking front)
- Your choice of pretty decopatch paper
- And an object to wrap
The exciting part is, that according to the paperpatch glue pot – you can actually stick any paper to any surface using the glue, but I recommend that you start with the real deal before you get experimenting.
So here’s how I made a lovely hanging heart:
Cut your Decopatch paper into sections of different sizes and shapes (squares, rectangles, triangles…)
Apply the glue liberally to your chosen object
Use the brush to pick up your paper sections and place onto the glued areas, and when in place apply glue over the paper as well to make sure it is in place.
Continue this process until you object is covered (for items that curve or have sides, you can snip the paper pieces slightly to enable them to mould around the object)
Leave to dry…
Revel in the beauty you have created!
Doesn’t it look great – after my heart I have already created a beautiful box, and have plans for some letters to adorn my living room. So if you want a great place to start for your wedding DIY, I definitely recommend Decopatch – it is simple and effective, and not too expensive either, when you consider what you would pay for buying a pre-made object (and don’t forget to really drive costs down try experimenting with different papers and objects).
