I have been wanting to do a post about first looks for quite a long time now. The idea completely intrigues me and I am totally torn on whether I am a first look kind of girl, or not.

But first I should probably explain what a first look is, because although the concept is now quite popular in America, it is still little known here in the UK.

A first look means that the bride and groom see each other before the wedding. Yes I know, a break from the tradition of the grooms first glance of the bride being when his bride glided down the aisle towards him. And there are pros and cons of course – I for one adored the Royal Wedding moment where we all saw Prince William tell his bride how beautiful she looked. But that is also one of the pros of a first look – you get that moment all to yourself, a private moment before all eyes are on you and a moment that you can share with your beloved.

It is also an opportunity to get your couple shots before the ceremony, meaning that the bride and groom can spend more time socialising with guests once the ceremony is over.

I am a little bit of a sucker for wedding traditions (though not all of them might I add), and there is something beautiful about the bride being walked down the aisle to be ‘given away’ to her groom, but if that particular element of the day leaves you racked with nerves, a First Look could be just the thing to ease the butterflies.

So, over to you guys – what are your thoughts on a First Look? Would you do one? Or are you happier to stick to tradition?
