You may recall a couple of week’s ago that I featured the wonderful Planet Cards, the one stop shop for your wedding stationary requirements (check out the feature here – it has a great discout code). Well for today’s Careers in the wedding industry post, the lovely Rachel from Planet Cards tells us a little more about her job and how she got into it.
Rachel is the Website Manager for Planet Cards, perhaps not a route into a career in the wedding industry that you were thinking of, but definitely worth considering if you are looking for variety!
How did you get into your job?
My favourite things growing up were literature, art and animals, and, being a chatty person by nature, I love anything that involves having a good chat – I went on to study Communications at University and, after a bit of travelling, landed upon my job as website manager for the new and upcoming Planet-Cards. I readily accepted the job, as I knew it would allow me to express every aspect of my personality (apart from my love of animals, although we do have pet fish in the office, but that’s another story!)
Describe your role within the company?
When I first started, the site hadn’t even been properly created yet, so I spent a lot of time reflecting on the design and colours of the website itself, creating and personalising the products we’d feature and writing up the content pages. The website’s been live for a year now, and my role is really to maintain and develop the website. A big part of this involves ensuring excellent customer service. I’ll see to customer queries, assist them with their order, help design their invitations for them etc… All of our cards are for special occasions, and so I want to make sure their cards are perfect. In addition to this, I regularly update the website with offers and promotions, new products and launch various marketing activities. I also look after the website’s Social Media Marketing, managing our profile on various social networks, our blog and featuring content which would be of interest to our followers!
What percentage of the invitations produced at planet cards is for weddings?
I’d have to say that just over a third of the invitations we produce are for weddings. I think what attracts our customers the most is being able to personalise their cards to suit their style and personality. They can add photos of their wedding destination, or choose colours that match their wedding theme. They can create truly unique wedding stationery for their truly unique wedding.
What do you particularly love about weddings?
The variation! I love that you never see two same weddings. I love the different ideas, themes, colours, flowers, dresses, venues, menus… It’s one of the greatest days in someone’s life and it’s always unique. I also love looking at the photographs afterwards… especially the natural ones, of people laughing and dancing… they’re my fav!
What would/did your wedding invite look like?
I love vintage inspired wedding stationery… with a handwritten font. I don’t think I’d have a photo in my invites, but I would for my save the dates! I’m actually personalising some new stationery sets, which should be featured on the website very soon, and which I’m very excited about. I’ll give you a sneak peak of my favourite one J I love the pattern on it, and the colours!
What is your favourite part of your job?
I love, love, love receiving emails from customers thanking us for our service. A compliment from a customer never fails to make me smile and my day go by faster! My second favourite thing is updating my blog! I love exploring the internet for inspiration and ideas.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in a website manager role within the wedding industry?
Keep up to date, not only on the wedding industry, looking at the latest trends, visiting wedding shows, chatting to people within the business, but also on the social networking front, looking at ways to increase traffic and market effectively to your target audience.
Sounds great doesn’t it!! If you want to check out some of the great invitations and customisation options on Planet Cards visit the website. And don’t forget to enter the discount code: APHRODITES to get 15 per cent off your order.
